Keep the requirements in mind (.5 page, double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, 1” margins, not including title page or references). Instructions: 1. Think about the occupation chosen for you after taking the RIASEC interest inventory in Week 1 a. What was the occupation? Human Resource Managers b. Would you recommend an organization use a cognitive ability test for this occupation? Why or why not? I would recommend a company use a cognitive ability test for Human Resource Managers as well as other employees in the HR department. HR Managers need to be knowledgeable about business and labor laws and organizational behavior. The multi-faceted roles and different tasks makes social skills and communication skills an important factor when considering a candidate for a position. These tests measure critical thinking and problem-solving abilities since the HR Manager have to be able to deliver both good and bad news as well as balance the day-to-day responsibilities and the long-term goals of the company. c. How do you plan on maximizing performance and diversity, while limiting adverse impact? I have found the best ways to maximize performance is to stay goal-oriented, manage expectations by being realistic and creating benchmarks to measure team success. Training and developing your team is crucial to team success and maximizing performance. Also, holding employees accountable to those standards by providing constructive feedback and offering support that might encourage them to re-engage helps increase performance and productivity. Lastly, improving performance through rewards like compensation or other benefits like additional paid time off or gift cards. Promoting from within, being flexible with schedules, fostering a culture of wellbeing and support, and creating opportunities for collaboration also increase employee performance and job satisfaction. Providing targeted internships and mentorships can help increase diversity. Conduct diversity training and unconscious bias training for recruiters and other HR staff who participate in the hiring process can help increase diversity. In order to limit adverse impact, data and record keeping is important. This will help to be able to track the data and make any necessary changes. A few ways to limit adverse impact is to conduct an objective job analysis, understand and implement the 4/5ths rule, track applications and pass rates, inspect your selection and assessment process, train your team on best practices, and document the hiring process. This will help protect the company from discrimination accusations or lawsuits. d. Would you expect this occupation to need other types of ability tests, such as mechanical ability, clerical ability, and physical ability? Why or why not? Yes, there should be tests to measure technological and computer skills. Microsoft Suite, Excel, and other software is important in this career. Also, being proficient in HRIS Systems like ADP Workforce, Paycor, and Workday is a must in this field. 2. My extroversion, stability, agreeableness, and conscientiousness make me well-suited for this career. My intellect and imagination score was on the lower side, however still open to experience. I can agree with that somewhat, but I see myself as more traditional and conservative. Overall, my traits are very compatible with this occupation. c. Would you recommend an organization measure any of the following personality traits in their selection system? Why or why not? i. Core Self Evaluation ii. Emotional intelligence iii. Proactive personality I think that an organization should look at all of the above personality traits.
